Washington’s construction boom keeps going with 15,300 new jobs

If you needed more evidence that the construction boom is in full swing in the Puget Sound area, look no further than the job market.
Washington state added 15,300 new construction jobs between July 2014 and July 2015, according to a new report by the Association of General Contractors of America.
Only two states — California and Florida — added more construction jobs during the same period. California added 48,900 jobs and Florida added 26,500 jobs.
The rapid hiring for construction isn’t happening everywhere, though.
In crunching the latest U.S. Department of labor statistics, the Association found that 13 states actually shed construction jobs in the last year. That’s up from only three a year ago.
“The uneven growth reflects the cross-cutting trends in the overall economy, as tight government budgets, plunging commodity prices and weak overseas demand lead to project cancellations in some states even while activity accelerates elsewhere,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist.
