CATERPILLAR TO LAY OFF MORE WORKERS & CUT HOURS
Caterpillar announced it will lay off part of its workforce in Texoma, Texas, reports Herald Democrat.
The eliminated positions centered on the production of rotary blasthole drills and hydraulic track drills used in mining operations, said Caterpillar spokeswoman Rachel Potts.
In addition to these cuts, Potts said the local facilities will be operating at reduced production hours, cutting the hours of employees. The facilities will have a four-day-a-week production schedule through the end of 2015.
News of the layoffs follows a corporate announcement of cost reduction initiatives and the elimination of 10,000 jobs throughout the company due to a reduced demand.
