Peru: Mining exports to dynamize in 2016’s first quarter
Peru’s mining exports will experience significant recovery in the first quarter of 2016, taking into account Las Bambas mining project’s entry into operation, Energy and Mines Minister Rosa Maria Ortiz affirmed on Friday.
“Last January, cooper production increased by over 40% precisely thanks to Las Bambas’ entry into operation, which led to increased levels of exports,” Ortiz indicated.
“We expect this situation remains unchanged over the next months […],” she told Andina news agency.
The official expressed confidence the mining project would cause a positive impact on copper production and contribute to exporting 400,000 tonnes of the said mineral.
Three of the world’s five largest copper mines are located in Peru; Las Bambas, Cerro Verde and Antamina.
Las Bambas is the country’s largest mining center to date.
